Overview
Oakland Tech Rowing families are required to provide a minimum of 12 volunteer hours per season, as the long-term success of the rowing program depends on a sustained level of commitment and support. Parents and family members may take on a single role or sign up to help with a single event or project, as outlined below.
In addition, OTR families are asked to participate in routine maintenance and special repair tasks for the boats and boathouse, organized by EBRC and scheduled for the first Saturday morning of every month starting approximately 9am and lasting for 2-3 hours. Training is provided.
OTR families are also asked to:
- Launder dirty towels and return within two days (ongoing!)
- Fill up the gas cans for the launch boats when the monthly task is assigned to OTR

Outline of Parent Volunteer Roles
Oakland Tech Rowing Board Representative
The OTR Board Representative attends and represent Oakland Tech to the EBRC Board of Directors. The Board meets on the second Thursday of every month and you would be tasked with bringing OTR successes and challenges to the Board, as well as bringing club happenings back to OTR. This is a two-year position.
Oakland Tech Rowing Parent Lead
The OTR Parent Lead works with OTR coaches, coordinate the activities of Parent Coordinators and volunteers to provide transportation, food, uniform ordering, etc. in support of the OT rowing team. This is a two-year commitment to provide support when starting a new academic year and continuity from year to year. An assistant to this position would be appreciated and should be considered the Parent Lead in-training.
Communications/Website Lead
Leads the look/feel/content/framework of OT Rowing on website, Facebook, and TeamSnap.
Purple Handbook Lead
Leads development of an online handbook which details the ins and outs of the OT rowing team (similar to the Berkeley High Red Book).
Fundraising Coordinator
Plans and runs Oakland Tech fundraising activities. This position partners with the EBRC Fundraising Director (and Executive Director) for ideas and resources to execute drives and events.
Gear Coordinator
Coordinates sourcing and ordering of athlete gear, whether unis, t-shirts, bags, hats and any other gear items deemed necessary. Works with the Finance Coordinator to track expenses and reimbursements. Works with the EBRC Gear Coordinator to source gear.
Finance Coordinator
Tracks fundraising income that isn’t gathered through TeamSnap, expenses and reimbursements. Works with EBRC President and Treasurer to collect payments, reimburse expenses, etc. This will be a developing role as it becomes better defined.
Transportation Coordinator
Arranges for carpools for athletes to and from regattas and other events.
Regatta Coordinator
Organizes volunteers around providing food and equipment (tents, grills, etc.) needed to support athletes at regattas and other events.
Regatta and Event Volunteers
Works with Regatta Coordinator for to bring the food, drinks and other equipment needed to attend a regatta, including set up, tear down and storage.
Equipment Maintenance Volunteers
Provides help in performing routine maintenance on some equipment. (Immediate need is to put the yellow stripe on all OT oars.)
